We welcome guests of members and visitors to services each week. Worship services are mask-appreciated. We encourage mask-wearing as masks are a proven method to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Central Synagogue continues to require full vaccination for entry into our facilities. Vaccination status is determined by the number of doses and boosters recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) based on age group and health status. We require at least three shots for all people over five years of age.

Our Sanctuary is usually open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, but due to the pandemic, our Sanctuary is currently closed to outside tours and visits. You can find more on our Visiting Central page.

If you are a member of Central who is experiencing an after-hours life cycle emergency, please leave a message at (347) 334-1043. This phone line is monitored outside of office hours and is available to any Central member with a life cycle emergency.

As of March 2021, Central Synagogue’s congregation includes 2,600 households.

You must be a member in good standing in order to hold a life cycle event or to book a room at Central. Weddings, baby namings, britot, and funerals are all considered life cycle events. Members can find booking information at our Room Rentals page.

Friday services start at 6:00 pm, and Saturdays start at 9:30 am. As we hold additional services for b’nei mitzvahs and other holidays, it is best to check our calendar for up-to-date service days and times, as well as for information on our upcoming programs and special events. As of July 2, 2021, all vaccinated members may attend weekly Shabbat services in person. Masking will be optional and social distancing will be encouraged. Proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test from no more than 72 hours prior to the service is currently required for entry. Read more about reopening here. An online Mishkan T’Filah Transliterated (first book in the list) used during Central’s services is available. Additionally, a print version of our prayer book is available from CCAR Press.

Street parking is limited, however there are many parking garages nearby. 

• Champion 55 parking is located at 133 East 55th Street (between Park and Lexington)
• iPark NYC Parking is located at 155 East 55th (between 3rd and Lexington)

Central Synagogue is a Reform synagogue. We practice Kosher-style dietary rules.

Central does not have a gift shop, but we recommend Judaica Classics by Doina at 1248 Lexington Avenue (between 84th & 85th streets).

We do not generally accept donated clothing or furniture, though Central does hold several food and clothing donation drives throughout the year.
